Lyn Solander. Bring strength, flexibility and focus to your personal healing process. "I studied the Wu style Tai Chi with sifu John Leong of the Seattle Kung Fu Club and have been practicing since 1980, teaching since 1985. I live on Vashon Island where I am a massage therapist, teach Tai Chi and spend a lot of time playing in my garden. In Yelapa we will use Chi Gung as warm-up exercises followed by a short Tai Chi form that will be possible to learn during the retreat."

Kaj Wyn Berry. "I'm an artist, calligrapher, editor and writer. I learned Duong Sinh (we call it "Stick") from a Zen monk at Thich Naht Hanh's Plum Village in France. David and I have been doing it nearly every morning for the past six years on Vashon Island. The stretches and deep breathing are a great way to start the day. We are both students of Joshu Sasaki Roshi, 103 year-old Rinzai Zen master."

Tai Chi For Body Mind And SpiritDavid Steel. "I'm a caregiver, kayak guide and teacher on Vashon Island. For the past ten years I have been exploring "chi" in Chi Gung, swimming, running, hiking and kayaking. In Yelapa I will teach you how to experience chi during sitting and while doing "stick." Personally I feel that my "chi" work gives me more energy, a feeling of flow and happiness."

What is Chi, Chi Gung, Duong Sinh?

Chi or qi is the Chinese word for "breath". It is the life-process or flow of vital energy that sustains living beings (and some think non-living states as well). Chi is invisible, but we can feel it. Chi Gung is a technique or method of augmenting chi using mind, breathing and body for reasons of health and well being.Tai Chi

"Chi Gung is a spiritual practice that will help to strengthen and increase balance. It increases awareness of the external world while helping to focus your mind. It is good for memory, mindful breathing, increased vitaility, improves posture and will you make you feel more peaceful and grounded." -- Lyn Solander

Duong Sinh means "life sustaining way of the heart". It is an ancient Vietnamese Chi Gung practice using a long, light bamboo stick. It incorporates deep breathing and 16 movements invented by the elderly Mai Bac Dau and revised by Zen master Thich Tinh Tu.
